Police in Birmingham city in England say they are investigating a string of attacks on four mosques that occurred in the city on early Thursday morning.
West Midlands Police said detectives and counterterrorism officers are investigating after windows were smashed at four mosques in Birmingham.
The latest attacks raise fears of islamophobia in the west since the attack on 2 mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch city last week.
Officers responded after reports in the early hours of Thursday of a man seen shattering windows with a sledgehammer at one mosque according to the city’s police force.
Forensics experts are working to identify evidence at the scenes of the four attacks, while CCTV is also being examined.
The Birmingham Council of Mosques condemned the attacks and said they were horrified while at the same time promising to work closely with the police force to identify the attacker and prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
